My guess is the depositions about to happen in Missouri v. Biden has them panicked. That's the reason for The Atlantic "can't we just let bygones be bygones" piece and the DHS document leak to The Intercept. This is their M.O. when really bad information is about to drop. They get ahead of it by leaking it to some leftie publication in order to shape the narrative.
No way The Intercept publishes this without the higher ups in the intel community giving them the green light. This is the same publication that Glenn Greenwald was forced to leave because they quashed his reporting of the Hunter Biden laptop. The publication he started himself. They're state-run media now. They're Pravda.
Well the best way to counter "dis-information" would be to have a functioning, credible news industry. Unfortunate the media sacrificed any remaining credibility they may have had in their never-ending attempt to delegitimize Donald Trump and his supporters. Now watch them further prostitute themselves to big brother as they try to spin this story away. Remember when we had an organization called the American Civil Liberties Union? What happened to them. They are using 80 years of research into behavioral psychology and marketing. This - along with censorship which resulted in artificial consensus - is how they got such huge buy-in on the covid jabs.

We’re living in two worlds. There’s the world we see (or are made to see) and then there’s the one we sense (and occasionally catch a glimpse of), the latter of which is a far cry from the propaganda-driven reality manufactured by the government and its corporate sponsors, including the media.

It is also an illegal violation of the first amendment and is evidence that Facebook is acting as a government agent and should have liability as such. Class action lawsuit for civil rights violation and a criminal charge for violation of every American citizens first amendment rights.

So, how would this new 'protection' have prevented the Russiagate hoax?
How would it have prevented the letter signed by 51 former Dem security officials claiming that the Hunter laptop was Russian disinformation?
