I always take back roads. I am never lost but always searching.
When I see dogs running wild but know they have a home I know I am closer to home.
The majority of America lives in the back 40. We have cars on blocks in the yard and a BBQ that is rusted about to give out but always manage one more cook out. The scent of BBQ lingers in the air all summer long to fall.
I fall asleep to Katydids at night and wake to the symphony of birds.
I have resided all over the world, but I have only lived in America.
This was such a pleasure to read. I much prefer to be off the beaten path. There is nothing like going through small towns to see real America. And sometimes getting lost, or detoured, is a great blessing. I rode from PA up to Calgary a few summers ago. This post brought back memories of the best trip of my life. Although that dirt road in the Badlands wasn’t too much fun on two wheels. If you’re still out, enjoy the trip. If you’re back, enjoy the memories.
Very beautiful ... Godspeed. Don't let the dust and sand get in and clog up your actuators.
Well stated. I love touring on my motorcycle in the same manner.
... my thoughts exactly ... very well said!!!

I imagined being there...
We take state roads as often as we can. They go through now bypassed old towns and beautiful scenery.
The road to Denver you’re talking about may be one we took when the quaking aspen looked like fire on the mountains.
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for this.
Indeed, Techno, Indeed!
This was an excellent road trip essay in the form of William Least Heat Moon.
Awesome
Thank you for the journey!
